Al-Ayyam Publishing Corporation was established in 1989 by an elite group of young Bahraini media cadres in a pioneering experiment of its kind in the Arab world that aimed to own and manage this press institution by its employees. The Foundation published the political daily Al-Ayyam in Arabic on March 7, 1989, followed by the Bahrain Tribune political daily newspaper in English on March 8, 1997.
