"All India Radio Siliguri was commissioned on 7th July 1963 as an Auxiliary Station of All India Radio Kolkata with a The studio setup of All India Radio Siliguri is a 2 - storied building located at 2nd Mile, Sevoke Road, Siliguri. All the studios and control room are in the ground floor. The 2 x 5 KW GCEL FM Transmitter is also housed in the same building cosited alongwith its Playback Studio. The other studios available are the Recording & Dubbing Room, the Talk Studio (Recording), the Music Studio (Recording) and the Playback Studio (for Primary Channel).
The High Power Transmitter (2 x 100 KW BEL HMB 140) is installed in the transmitter campus at Salugara.

There are two different campuses for the staff quarters. One is at Hakimpara which is in the heart of Siliguri. Here there are 4 nos. Type IV, 14 Nos. Type III and 4 Nos. Type II quarters. The other quarter campus is right behind the studio campus. Here there are 8 Nos. Type III and 12 Nos. Type II quarters available.
broadcasting strength of 20 Kilo Watts (2 x 10 Kilo Watts NEC transmitter) as a part of Medium Wave plan to provide medium wave coverage to the people of North Bengal. The studio was then housed in a small room of the Hakimpara Post Office. Dilip Chatterjee was the first announcer whose voice went on AIR from this station. However there was no originating programme then. Only News Programme (from AIR Delhi & AIR Kolkata) and Troops Programme (from AIR Guwahati) used to be relayed. Recorded disc of Anurodher Asar (listeners' request) programme used to come from AIR Kolkata.
First originating programme was Prantik which was produced in 1969"
